As the warmer weather makes people think of spring, more and more we get asked about heading outside. What to do out and about on the town. Specifically, we have been getting inquiries for live music. I guess the nicer weather makes people want to get up and dance! We whole-heartedly support this as we have found ourselves involved in a few spontaneous dance parties lately. I guess chirping birds and the early sights of spring flowers puts a little boogie in all of us! Since the conversation has come up multiple times lately, we thought we would share some of our favorite venues for live music. Full disclosure, they are not all outside but we couldn't leave them out.
We will start with the outdoor venues, since that is what prompted this article! Of course, when you think Colorado and outdoor music, Red Rocks Amphitheater is at the top of the list. We would be failing at our offerings if we left this off, but let us tell you about some of the other great options in the area! The Denver Botanic Gardens always bring a variety of shows that are worth the line to get in! Take your low chairs, picnic (with wine), and get in line early for a great spot. Get tickets early, they sell out! Levitt Pavilion is new-ish to the block but has already brought some amazing talent to the stage. Some shows have tickets, some are free, all of them are worth the trip to the venue. Speaking of free, Jazz in the Park is a Denver summer must-do! Go early, set up some lawn games, grill out, let the kids run wild! Don't want to bring anything? There are food trucks to satisfy your rumbling belly too. Be sure to bring a little cash as there is an opportunity for donations. If you are not sure you want to travel that far from home, be sure you check out your municipality. Highlands Ranch has a summer concert series that is a great family affair, City of Littleton brings great acts for your enjoyment, Town of Parker has a wonderful facility for all to enjoy a warm summer night and live music. We could go on and on with neighborhood Jazz Festivals, Westword Music Showcase, Commons Park shows.....you see our point. Perhaps another blog about neighborhood festivals is coming in the near future!
If you are not so keen on the outdoors and sunshine and prefer indoor live music, don't fret. This is the amazing thing about living in a city that loves music, there area options for everyone! We love all show offerings at Dazzle Jazz - Sunday Brunch, staying for both sets in a night, Friday lunch jazz - they are all amazing! Thinking about a random Tuesday date night? Head to Union Station for their Tuesday night shows. Grab a drink at the Terminal Bar or some ice cream and enjoy the views of a beautiful location enhanced by free, live jazz! Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom/Cervantes' Other Side is a crowd favorite. With a wide variety of genres of music offered, we find ourselves wanting to buy tickets weekly! Don't wear heals though, you will be standing and be sure to put your dancing shoes on. With such great talent on stage, you will not stand still. Tallboy PBR is also a benefit of seeing shows here! Ophelia's Electric Soap Box is sometimes overlooked because of its 'entertaining' history. Don't be fooled, this is a must for a great date night. The food is good, the venue is small, and the décor creates memorable conversation. While we cannot rate it yet, the newest addition to the Denver music scene is set to open this summer. Don't miss the Mission Ballroom. They already have a great lineup announced and will certainly continue to add to the entertainment!
I am sure many of you are thinking, 'what, they missed my favorite venue!' You would be correct! There are so many great ones to pick from in Denver, we simply cannot mention them all. Keep an eye out, more live music discussions to come!
Not sure you want to plan this live music outing all by yourself? Just ask Denver Date Nite, they can get you set up for a night out for live music and entertainment!
