With a market of $198 billion by 2020, one can see why vacation rentals are the newest trend in entrepreneurship. Many people are giving up their homes to short-term rentals or investing in properties to rent out...a great way to make some extra money or cover your mortgage! Keep in mind, though, that many guests come to your home with the expectation of hotel-like amenities. Make sure they give you a good review and return to your home to stay. The best way to grow your business is word of mouth, right?! Below are a key tips from the pros on how to make your guests feel welcome and make sure their stay is top-notch. Get them coming back!!
1. Provide a guidebook. People coming to visit do not know the best restaurants, coffee shops, where to get groceries, etc. Give them a head start and leave a detailed guidebook. Let them experience your town like a local!
2. Provide hotel-like amenities. Not everyone will admit it, but everyone likes to be pampered! Make sure the sheets are soft, leave robes for them, slippers are always a great add-on too! Leave the towels out on the bed so they aren't searching for them. Also, be sure to leave soap, shampoo, etc so they have anything they may have forgotten. Luxury is key.
3. A welcome basket is a must. Gather items from your town/area that will welcome your guests. Let people know you were thinking of their stay and give them a little taste of your city. They can take items with them to remind them that they need to return to your rental! Make sure it is thoughtful and useful - wasteful is not inviting.
4. Have an on-point online profile. In order to draw people into your rental, make sure the online profile is updated and inviting. Quality photos of your place, showing off all the great assets, draws people in to check out your place. Make sure you show people the great amenities of your home so they know what to expect. Also remember that the first photo of you profile sells your rental. If the first photo is boring, people will not click on the rental to see the rest of the photos. If you have a pool, make that the first photo - draw people in!
If you are lucky enough to get yourself in the rental market, take advantage and make the most of your opportunity.
